Della Au Belatti was born and raised in Mānoa Valley. After graduating as valedictorian of Maryknoll School, she studied American history at Princeton University and became a teacher at Trenton Central High School. But Della never forgot her Hawai‘i roots, and after graduating, she returned to Hawai‘i to teach at her alma mater.In her first year of teaching at Maryknoll, Della challenged her students to answer the question, “What does it mean to participate effectively in a democracy?” In that moment, she knew her calling was to serve.

In 2006, Della was elected to represent Hawai‘i State House District 25. For nearly 20 years, she has worked tirelessly to protect and expand the rights of the people of Hawai‘i. As Health Committee Chair and House Majority Leader, she led efforts to pass legislation protecting reproductive health care, fought to strengthen Hawai‘i’s mental health care services, and helped navigate the State through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, she served as Chair of the House Committee on Public Safety and, most recently, championed government transparency as co-convenor of the Good Government Caucus. She helped lead the fight to pass Senate Bill 2471 to stop the influence of dark corporate money on elections so we can undo the damage caused by the U.S. Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision, which has wreaked havoc on our democracy.

She attended law school at the University of Hawai‘i William S. Richardson School of Law, and went on to clerk for Judge Dexter Del Rosario in the First Circuit Court and Justice Simeon R. Acoba of the Hawai‘i State Supreme Court.Della started a family with her husband Michael, a nurse of nearly two decades at Queen’s Medical Center. Together, they are raising their daughters Emma and Elyana in Makiki, where the girls attend the University of Hawai‘i-Mānoa and Roosevelt High School.

Celebrating Twenty Years of Service!

Help Della celebrate 20 years of dedicated service in the State House of Representatives by joining us for sign-waving from 4:00-5:30 PM along the busy King Street corridor fronting the Downtown Honolulu Post Office. Then, from 5:30-7:00 PM, we'll gather at the historic Inspiration Hawai'i Museum for dinner &amp; fellowship to share stories about Della's 20 years working for the people of Hawai'i.

Della will always put Hawaiʻi’s people and environment first. Climate change threatens everything that makes Hawaiʻi special—from our reefs and coastlines to our farms and communities. The Maui wildfires showed what happens when neglect and underinvestment collide. Della will make the federal government a partner—not a barrier—in local climate solutions.&nbsp; She’ll fight to expand renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and coastal-protection programs that create good-paying union jobs while protecting our Native ecosystems. That means investing in Native Hawaiian&nbsp; stewardship practices, restoring watershed protections, and treating land and water as public priorities—not private commodities.

Join us for the HEART of Honolulu Street Festival&nbsp;and bring the joy of Della's campaign for Congress and the Belatti Brigade to voters in the Heart of Downtown Honolulu!We’ll meet&nbsp;at the park next to Hawai'i Theatre at the corners of Bethel Street and Hotel Street at NOON, then strut our stuff and walk the short parade route through the streets.&nbsp;&nbsp;Parking will be available throughout Downtown at the different underground City &amp; County parking lots, as well as street parking.&nbsp; But be prepared for crowds! HEART of Honolulu kicks off at 11 AM to 4 PM with Nuuanu Avenue shut down and open only for pedestrian traffic.&nbsp; There will be art, live music, food, creative local vendors, performances and more. So come early before we join the parade or stay later to enjoy all of the festivities.The parade marks the return of "HeART STRUT, a fun parade of handmade, wearable art, with an 'Inspired by Chinatown' theme!" Health care is too expensive and too hard to access. Della is the only candidate in this race who supports Medicare for All. She’ll fight to expand access to affordable coverage, bring down prescription costs, and reverse Trump’s cuts to Medicaid.&nbsp; As a legislator, Della helped strengthen mental-health services and protect reproductive health care.
